Raphael is one of my favourite Renaissance master artists. Despite his death at the young age of 37, I’m amazed by his massive production of masterpieces and quite often wonder what he could have achieved if he lived longer. Who would he become if he was born in the digital age? In studying his drawings, I can’t help but thinking he had only one model per each age group and gender. For example most of his young male drawings had the same physique, likewise for the female drawings. Weren’t there any smaller, bigger, shorter and taller people in Renaissance time? My best friend Wing pointed out even his cupids look oddly muscular. I guess Raphael and other great Renaissance artists had redefined perfection in their time which presumably diversity had different meaning.
